It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our friend and colleague Gabriel Caita.
In the morning of May 16th, 2021, he died at his home following a heart attack. He was 53 years old. He will forever be remembered by his wife Manuela and his children Marilyn and James.
Gabe was a close friend and an integral part of our team. He worked with Chinook as a wellsite geologist from 2006 to 2011, and joined our management team in 2017 as a senior operations geologist.
His open attitude and approachable manner made him the center of communications between our operation and field geologists, as well as the prime point of contact with many clients, whom he always regarded as friends.
He thoroughly enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, lovely weather, hot food, white wine and fine coffee.

Jayson Walmsley: “Gabe was an outgoing, gregarious person with a larger than life personality. His positive outlook and generous nature were truly one of a kind. He will be missed deeply by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.”
Natalie Daragan: “Gabe will be greatly missed at Chinook – his warm-heartedness, love of life and cheerful attitude, his generosity of spirit. It was a privilege to get to know him and share some good times. His memory will be forever with us.”
Nick Mason: “Nobody could tell a story like Gabe. His ability to tie all things back to his vast knowledge of genealogy and past civilizations was depicted in every story. As a true Genealogist his passion was “family”, Gabe was a genuine family man and will be sorely missed by all that came to know him.”
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 5 PM to 7:30 PM. Visitations can be done in groups of maximum 10 people for maximum 10 minutes.
Funeral Services will be held at St. John Chrysostom Russian Orthodox Church (14608 Macleod Trail, Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 2:00 PM. Graveside Service to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. The service will be webcast on Zoom (Meeting ID: 882 2532 3395, Passcode: Gabe2021).
