File check-list for Geological Morning Reports

Daily reports are sent by email, web-based or VPN file management systems to the operator at a mutually convened time.

Email subject should contain rig name, well name and date, ex: “Morning Report – PD 123 – Oilcorp Brownfield 1-2-3-4W5 – August 06” (*the title is also generated as a tag in the AM report)

When sending morning reports, always specify in the email what the current operation is, current depthROPgas background, gamma average. If any special events took place during the day, mention them briefly as well. Add an estimate of timing for the next operation (logging, coring, bit trip, casing run, etc).

Files should be clearly named using the following pattern:
“File type-Wellname-lsd.extension”,
ex: “Striplog lateral-Oilcorp Brownfield 1-2-3-4W5.pdf
This naming convention facilitates document filing and search.

The following files should be attached to the daily report email:

Vertical and deviated wells
  • Morning Report: pdf printout of daily report generated from excel file; file name: “AM Rep-wellname lsd.pdf”
  • Striplog: Vertical striplog in native format and as pdf printout; file name: “Striplog-wellname lsd.pdf” and “Striplog-wellname lsd.vlog/sl6/slg”
  • Well chart: pdf printout from VS chart (from final report); file name: “Well chart-wellname lsd.pdf”
  • Data files: Surveys (“Surveys-wellanme lsd.txt”) and/or gamma data (“Gamma-wellname lsd.dat”) and/or wireline data (“Wireline-wellname lsd.las”)
Horizontal wells - build section
  • Morning Report: pdf printout of daily report generated from excel file; file name: “AM Rep-wellname lsd.pdf”
  • Striplog: Vertical striplog in native format and as pdf printout; file name: “Striplog build-wellname lsd.pdf” and “Striplog build-wellname lsd.vlog/sl6/slg”
  • Vertical section chart: pdf printout from VS chart (from final report); file name: “VS chart-wellname lsd.pdf”
  • Build section chart: pdf printout from Build chart (from final report); file name: “Build chart-wellname lsd.pdf”
  • Data files: Surveys (“Surveys-wellanme lsd.txt”), gamma data (“Gamma-wellname lsd.dat”)
Horizontal wells - lateral section
  • Morning Report: pdf printout of daily report generated from excel file; file name: “AM Rep-wellname lsd.pdf”
  • Striplog: Horizontal striplog in native format and as pdf printout; file name: “Striplog HZ-wellname lsd.pdf” and “Striplog HZ-wellname lsd.vlog/sl6/slg”
  • Vertical section chart: pdf printout from VS chart (from final report); file name: “VS chart-wellname lsd.pdf”
  • Horizontal section chart: pdf printout from Horizontal chart (from final report) with updated drilling curves; file name: “HZ chart-wellname lsd.pdf”
  • Data files: Surveys (“Surveys-wellanme lsd.txt”), gamma data (“Gamma-wellname lsd.LAS”)
Coring stratigraphic wells
  • Morning Report: pdf printout of daily report generated from excel file; file name: “AM Rep-wellname lsd.pdf”
  • Core report: pdf printout of core report in final report; file name: “Core Rep-wellname lsd.pdf”
  • Well chart: pdf printout from VS chart in final report; file name: “Well chart-wellname lsd.pdf”
Other report files
  • Photos: Cuttings microscope photos; file name: “Depth-magnification-wellname lsd.jpg”, ex “2455m-20X-Oilcorp Brownfield 1-2-3-4W5.jpg”
  • Core report (when coring): pdf printout of core sheet (from final report); file name: “Core Rep-wellname lsd.pdf”
  • Wireline report (when runnig wireline logs): pdf printout of wireline sheet (from final report); file name: “Logs Rep-wellname lsd.pdf”
